Third Time's the Charm
Hoping third time is the charm - Malta have selected Chiara again! After coming third in 1998 behind Dana International, she returned with Angel for the 50th ESC and came in second place. 3... 2... there is only one direction Chiara seems to be going!
Third Time's the Charm II
Hungary have selected Mark, uh sorry, that's Katya, no, hold on... Zoli Adok to be their representative at Moscow.
Mark Zantai won the National Finals with "How We Party" which was disqualified about a week later when officials realised Swedish composer Figge Boström had released the song prior to 1st of October 2008 - unofficially he released with the band Big Brother in Sweden's Melodifestival in 2004 as 'We became friends'!
Enter second placed Kátya Tompos, with "Magányos csónak" (Lonely boat) a song notable for its ability to not win at Nationals level. Katya soon announced she was also withdrawing - apparently she was unaware Eurovision took place in May and had a scheduling conflict with some theatrical work. And so, finally we come to Zoli Ádok with 'Dance With Me.' Smart money is on Malta.
This is Bishkek, calling
A "Turkic" version of the Eurovision Song Contest, named the Turkvision Song Contest may be on its way - to join AsiaVision. Turkey, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan appear to be entering: there is no word on Uzbekistan yet.
The Turkophone-Turkish speaking countries Music Association (TMA) hope to host the first Turkvision in 2009 but the event will not be not affiliated with the Turkish Eurovision broadcaster TRT.
ESCystem of a Down?!
Are System Of A Down really interested in performing at Eurovision 2009 or is this a publicity stunt?
AME.com reported that Armenian national broadcaster (ARMTV) had approached the hard-rock lads who originated in Armenia to represent at the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest. There seem to be two small problems with the idea: a) the band is not together anymore and b) no one asked them.
SOAD later stated they might consider an ESC appearance to do a political song (which is banned unless you claim you're singing in Mongolian or "Put In" just sounds like Putin).
